Sauvik was awarded the Bastiat Prize (2002) for his journalistic articles, which he received from the former British Prime Minister, Lady Margaret Thatcher, at a ceremony in London. The award has been instituted in honour of the 19th century French classical liberal philosopher, economic commentator and political activist, Frédéric Bastiat (1800-1850), to recognize writers from around the world who explain the importance of freedom with originality, wit, and eloquence.
His book, Antidote: Essays Against the Socialist Indian State (2000), was one of the first intellectual revolt against Indian socialism. Its sequel, Antidote 2: For Liberal Governance (2003) revealed the breadth of the concerns before India’s liberals.
