In this comprehensive handbook, Debroy explains the various types of economies and compares them with the market economy, which he places as superior. He also examines the reasons for government intervention in market economies, such as concern for equity, market failures such as monopolies and so on. He examines the political rights of freedom and economic freedom. He also examines the notion of governance, along with several indices and institutions that are used to measure aspects of economic performance of countries. He concludes with statistical analysis of economic freedom around the world.
