The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Economic Democracy” was published on February 5, 1969 and was authored by B A Tarlton. The author analyses the economic situation prevailing within the country based on its compatibility with the ideal of democracy. He traces the evolution of the idea of democracy itself in world history to provide a grounded understanding of the situation at hand. He then goes on to explain what he means by the concept of economic democracy, and how the situation in India fits into the framework. He concludes by arguing that free markets are the way forward and it will make the Indian economy more democratic.
