The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Finance Companies Searches For a Meaningful Role’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Dr A. C. Shah on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 5th December 1996.
The booklet illustrates the regulatory framework of NBFCs and the problem with the current socialist system. Mr Shah recommends to incentivise the entry of new companies and exist of the loss-making companies, the support that NBFCs provide alongside banks can reduce the costs of funding, organising a common pool source of information on sharing basis with commercial banks and other development financial institutions and improving the managerial capabilities of NBFCs can strengthen the financial system of India.
