The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Central Economic Planning’ is authored by Professor Milton Friedman and Rose Friedman and published in 1982. The authors highlight how free enterprise is misunderstood in developing countries like India and cite the example for West and East Germany. He further compares the development of the economies of India and Japan. They further highlight the differences in approaches taken by both the countries and the different characteristics of their citizens. They elaborate how the different policies were adapted by both the countries. They elucidate why less controls, taxes, and more economic freedom is intrinsic for having economic growth in the country.
