The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘General Insurance As A Financial Institute In The Context Of Liberalisation’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr S. V. Mony on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 24th June 1992.
The booklet proclaims the benefits of liberalisation such as open competition, improving quality and maintaining price in the market and the development of the service sector in India. Moving towards insurance regulation and market structure, Mr Mony suggests overseeing Financial soundness and solvency, Fairtrade practices and consumer protection, Maintenance of probity, honesty & transparency, Strengthening domestic markets, Creating an information base to avoid any misuse and irregularities. Lastly, he elaborates on the challenges and strategies for adopting liberalisation namely quality assurance, efficiency and maintaining standardized systems for accounts and statistics.
