The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Indian Planning- Past and Future’ is a compilation of articles and speeches on the theme of Indian planning. In his talk titled ‘Planning success depends on modernization’, Sir Biren Mookerjee highlighted the role of industrial engineers in economy, adoption of pragmatic approach, importance of automation, and overcoming the hurdle of labour monopoly. Dr. N. Das has criticized the planned economic development of India in his article ‘Poor performance of 15 years of planning in India’. The author has demonstrated the drawbacks of the system through the variables of diet, housing, consumption of cloth, unemployment and inequality in sharing increased income. H.T. Parekh has emphasized the flaws of the fourth five-year plan in his talk titled ‘Problems of the fourth plan’. He underscored the significance of self-reliance in agriculture, alternative distribution system, availability of credit, and productivity of available resources.
