The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet title ‘New Horizons In General Insurance’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr Vasant C Vaidya a former Chairman and Managing Director of New India Assurance Co. Ltd. on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 7th June 1982.
The booklet lauds the performance of the General Insurance Corporation of India after being nationalised for a decade. The growth was achieved majorly by rationalising the fire tariff rating structure and increase in compensating the claims of many client’s and aiding the capital market. Visualising the future, Mr Vaidya assures the substantial expansion of the organisation. Addressing the deficiency to achieve the primary aim of delivering insurance to all sectors of the community, Mr Vaidya proclaims to provide insurance for rural sectors like Livestock Insurance, reducing the establishing cost to a two-tier organisation with managerial autonomy suiting local circumstances, to simplify the insurance procedure, well-trained staff and curtailing the unnecessary government interference from the day-to-day activity of the General Insurance Industry.
