The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Our foreign exchange problem can be solved by a new export policy,” was published in 1961 and was authored by Murarji J. Vaidya. The author highlighted the rapid expansion of world trade despite the existence of political tensions back then. The author went on to focus on the imbalance that perpetrated in Indian foreign trade relations and posed a question for finding a relevant solution and policies to the problem. Mr. Vaidya emphasized the normal functioning of the private sector as a viable remedy for infusing the Indian foreign exchange crisis. The booklet also proposed extra information on European Common Market & India’s Foreign Trade aspect. It was noted and accentuated upon those policies of the Indian foreign trade to be in alliance with the facts of the international situation governing the global markets then. The author stressed the stands the then government took and urged on the reconsideration for having India get recognized as a potential economic union member.
