The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Public Accountability” was published on January 1, 1970 and was authored by M R Masani. The author talks about the need for increased accountability among elected and other government officials. Taxation should not be an unchecked power of the government. He also points out the problem of wastage or inefficient use of resources in the public sector. Overall Mr. Masani makes a detailed study of the reasons why the government should have more checks and less arbitrary power.
