The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘The Economic Implications of the Union Budget 1969-70’ authored by Professor Rusi Jal Taraporevala and published in 1969. The author presents an economic analysis of the Union budget. He proceeds with analysing the economic indicators of the previous year. He highlights important future trends that the budget projects. He critically examines the budget on the basis of factors like defence expenditure, outlay on development and agriculture, and taxation. He appreciates the increase in taxes for the agricultural sector and recommends a cut in bank rate by one percent. He further analyses the impact of tax proposals on various industries.
