The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘The Need for Economic Statesmanship’ is authored  by S.L. Kirloskar and published in 1969. The author talks about the difference between a politician and a statesman by giving examples of Neville Chamberlain, Abraham Lincolon, Kemal Pasha, Winston Churchill, and Sardar Patel. He states that the country has to choose between redistributing poverty or increasing production. He then criticises and questions the government’s rush to do good, classified commercial undertakings, attempts to belittle the private sector and emphasizes the need to recognize poverty as a problem. He discusses the Bombay Plan, its vision and pitches the authors as true statesmen. He further responds to the accusations of businessmen not taking social responsibility and obsessing over profits. He appeals the leadership to rethink of the country’s economic policy.
