The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following book titled, “The New Pattern Of Taxation And Its Impact On The Indian Economy” was published on April 6, 1958 and was authored by the founder A.D. Shroff himself. In this booklet, the author reviews new changes in the tax pattern and its effect on the Indian Economy and discusses what this new pattern of taxation consists of. He examines the various elements of this pattern of taxation and talks about income tax and super tax on individuals, income tax and corporation tax on companies, taxes on excess dividend and bonus shares, the wealth tax on individuals and companies, expenditure tax, and the estate dutv. Then he gives a rough picture of the new pattern of taxation and states how the whole economy of the country is dominated by five-year plans. At the end of the booklet, the author calls the situation sufficiently gloomy and if the government persists its present policy, the deterioration in the economic situation will grow.
