The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet is titled “Unemployment and Imbalances in the Economy” and is authored by Dr V. M. Dandekar. The text aims at making clear certain aspects of the unemployment and the backlog of unemployment in India (at that given time). The author discusses the possible causes of unemployment – in which he highlights the problems created by rigorous government planning only on the production/supply side, without considering the nature of demand regarding that product. The author asserts the inevitability of the government’s role in creating effective demand, and then studying the free market phenomena i.e. according to the author, roughly, free market systems only work well when it is made sure that the effective demand is made sure it exists by the bureaucrats, et. al.
