The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Will Democratic Socialism help India?” was published in 1964 and was authored by the founder himself. The author focused on the economic problems that India was facing for quite some time during the 50s which prolonged all the way to the 60s. He also highlighted the functioning of the state of affairs in various sectors under the governments of different countries that procured to be daunting to the values of individual choice and free enterprises. Mr.Shroff further provided excerpts from the viewpoints of the leading economists who advocated the advent of libertarian ideas when it came to making a country function on a balanced basis. He further emphasized an objective review of nationalism, state ownership, and socialist planning and stressed the need for democratic norms underlying liberal philosophies for better economic functioning of India back then.
