The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Freedom Of The Press” was published on October 12, 1971 and was authored by D.R. Mankekar. This booklet is the text of the speech delivered on September 15, 1971, under the auspices of the Forum of Free Enterprise. The text talks about the misconceptions about the freedom of Press in the minds of political leaders. The text gives examples of political leaders like Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John Kennedy and their encounter with the Press. The text also talks about conservatism, the Yugoslav analogy, and the causes that would lead to nationalisation of the Press by the backdoor. The text concludes with a quotation by the author of the book, “Press Power”, Hans Dieter.
