The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “The Union Budget 2014-15” was published on August 5, 2014 and was authored by Minoo R. Shroff and others. The first article of the booklet titled, “Encouraging but Haling Debut of the New Finance Minister” by Minoo R. Shroff talks about the perceptible decline in quality of public service and urges the need for critically evaluating the efficiency of public expenditure at all levels. The next article titled, “Directional Reforms for Economic Resurgence!” by Sunil S. Bhandare discusses the rationale, limitations of the fiscal space, and substantive framework of the Budget. Adding to this, the writer talks about policy reforms, infrastructure development, industrial manufacturing resurgence and concludes the article with five takeaways from a short term perspective of the FY 2014-15. The concluding article of the booklet titled, “Domestic taxation” by Prof. Kanu H. Doshi discusses the Direct Tax proposals which include rates of tax, income from house property, business income, dividend distribution tax, capital gains, etc.
