The following booklet titled “Air Travel in India – Safety and Service” commences with a note from Wing Commander Vijay Mahajan who highlights the need for a National Aviation Policy which complements the policies of all three airlines while ensuring a curb to the political and bureaucratic interference in the working of the sector. Moreover, there is a need to expand the infrastructural capacity of the airline sector in terms of airports, air radio services, among others. The author says that this will be best suited if the sector was privatised or deregulated. 

The second author, Alka Sen, comments on the need for maintaining discipline in the sector to ensure security and safety of the aviation industry, which can be brought about through frequent random sample checks, safety procedures at airports and stringent procedures for pilot-in-command training. The author suggests the commissioning of experts for training cabin crews to ensure enhanced performance.

The third author, R.N. Kini lists the 10 commandments for ensuring safety of passengers aboard an airplane which include the proper fastening of seat belts, listening to safety regulations about oxygen masks and emergency exits, among others.
