The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Administrators, Managers and Leadership” is a fair reproduction of the Lalit Doshi Memorial Lecture delivered by the author, Deepak Parekh, in Mumbai on August 4th 1997. 

The author primarily speaks of the evolving requirements of leadership and the roles played by Administrators and Managers as leaders of the emerging economy in the coming millennium. It analyses the development of Administrators from the british era and their changing roles from mere overseers of legal compliance to efficient leaders. It further analyses the need to improve transparency and overall efficiency of both the government and private entities and touches upon Public, Private Partnership and its emergence in the new millennium.   The text speaks of how a global outlook is essential to improve our existing government systems and to reengineer the government procedures and goes on to highlight the importance of specialisation and what constitutes good leaders. The author concludes the text by stating how good leadership results in sustainable brand equity and how in the longer run, integrity, transparency and higher quality of services help a brand grow than any advertisement strategy.
