The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Banker and Corporate Customer’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr R.K. Talwar, former Chairman of the State Bank of India on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 27 June 1974.

This booklet provides insights about the changed relationship of the bank and corporate customer meaning the large-scale or medium-scale industrial or commercial borrower in the private, public or joint sector over time due to economic and industrial transformation, nationalisation of commercial banks and the growth of public sector units. He explains that the corporate borrower needs to generate capital from the productive assets and not merely depend on Bank credits. There exists certain for the banks while lending credits namely customer’s quality of management, financial planning and viability of operations. However, the incentives for the bank is the fact that the company’s growth benefits shareholders and the borrowers may later become the depositors.
