The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Economic Growth” was published on January 10, 1969 and was authored by Prof. Colin Clark. The author analyses various factors that influence economic growth in India, through separate sections of this booklet. The first factor he considers is the relationship between population and economic growth. He argues that the two have a positive relationship, and population growth therefore leads to increased national product. The second factor he analyses is taxation. He then goes on to examine the conditions necessary for economic growth. He dedicates a separate section for the role of agriculture in national growth. Lastly, he talks about a conversation he had with Mahatma Gandhi on the topic.
