The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Financing- The Changing Paradigm in India’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr Uday Kotak on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 6th August 2003.
The booklet illustrates the dynamic nature of the financing sector. The paradigm shift in the mindset wherein banks have turned into a service-oriented approach for money lending, business approach to solutions for customers problem, providing finance not only to the industry but also for service-oriented industries like media, the other major change is shifting from product-oriented to understanding customer needs and provide customer-centric services and shifting from wholesale to retail. Similarly, there has been developmental finance in the commercial sense in agriculture and other small commodity business. Moreover the change from securities to cash flow and blurring of lines between different institutions like financing, insurance and banking. The coming of derivatives would create more opportunities for the companies to create finance from different sources. Lastly, the booklet mentions risk management and the challenges to secure the flow of money in the global market.
