The following booklet titled “Limitations of Nationalisation” was authored by S. Narayana Aiyar. The author shares his personal experiences and learnings of Government management as an employee of several public companies. These ordeals formed his perception of Government administration as entirely inefficient. The author writes that the government’s take over of private enterprises would result in an immediate drop in the efficiency of the service. In every case, expenses would go up tremendously, and services would immediately cease to be what it was before. Further, he states that it is not a temporary effect of change that remedies itself over time but a permanent gradual degeneration of work. In light of his experiences, the author believes that it is essential to give exclusive rights to private enterprises and not meddle with their management for the betterment of the economy and efficiency. The best way of getting the work done is by creating independent organisations and entrusting them with suitably divided work items.
