The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Socialism and Poverty’ authored by C.R. Irani and published in 1971. The author talks about the evolution of socialism and proponents of socialism like Robert Owen, Marx, Milovan Djilas,etc. He claims that difficulty arises when human progress is halted. He further highlighted the discrepancies between vision and practical implications of communism, the difference between socialism and communism, and its deficiencies. He elaborates why socialism is not suitable for India and prescribes tests like national and per capita income, availability of necessities to earn wages, cost of living, overseas earning, employment, etc, to check the results of socialist planning. He states that cabinet members, members of Parliament are a part of the New Class. He recommends six principles for rapid growth in a free society.
