The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “The Indian Commercial banking System in the Next Decade – The Role of Small Banks” was published in 2010 and was authored by Dr. S.S. Tarapore. The author focused on the accelerated economic growth, something that has been a perception during the time. The author provided the historical standpoint of the progress in the commercial banking sector between the years of 1960-2010 and envisioned a five-fold growth of these bank deposits for the near Indian future. The author covered many issues and challenging covering the sector from a realistic and balanced approach. Thereby the author evaluated these issues and concluded the existence of the problems in small banks. And lastly concluded that there is absolutely no substitute for the occurrence of organic growth.
