The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘The Menace of Inflation’ is authored by N. Dandekar and published in 1961. The author examines the different definitions of inflation and proceeds to understand the monetary equation in our economy. He elaborates on concepts like creation and supply of money and how inflation is related to it. With the help of statistics, he demonstrates how the situation of inflation was generated. He highlights the drawbacks of fiscal planning in the country. He underlines the negative impact of inflation on salaried persons, daily wage earners, and fixed income earners. He further explains how inflation affects exports, lenders, and the national economy and policies. He recommends cutting down administrative expenditure, adopt realistic approach, avoid deficit budgeting, and mobilize public opinion on these issues.
