The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “The Union Budget 2011-12 – Direct Tax Implications” was published on April 3, 2011 and was authored by Kanu H. Doshi and Bhargava Vatsaraj. The text discusses income tax, income tax rates for partnership firms and for foreign companies, and domestic taxation. Then the tests discusses tax exemption of income from notified infrastructure debt fund, extension of time limit for obtaining exemption from Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), increase in the weighted deduction of amount paid/incurred for scientific research, amendment in provisions related to deductions in respect of the expenditure on Specified Business, benefits related to contribution to pension schemes, deduction for investment in long-term infrastructure bonds, increase in rate of Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT), etc. The booklet also discusses the international taxation pricing and amendments relating to international tax.
