The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “The Union Budget 2009-10: Three Critical Dimensions” was published on August 2, 2009. This booklet contains three articles that deals with various aspects of the subject at hand. The first article, titled ‘The Union Budget 2009-10: Does it Dovetail with Vision 2020?’, was authored by Amitha Sehgal and offers a macro-perspective that critically examines various provisions of the budget. The second article, titled ‘Impact on Capital Market’, was authored by Divya Vasantharajan and evaluated the micro impact of the budget on various sectors of the capital market. The third article in this booklet, titled ‘Direct Tax Proposals’, was authored by Kanu H Doshi and is a broad summary of the effect of the budget proposals on direct taxes.
