The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet is titled “Skill ecosystem – Journey to Vocalization of Education” was published in November 2018 and was authored by S. Ramadorai. This is a textual presentation of the lecture delivered by S. Ramadorai at IIT Bombay, in the memory of Mr. Nani. A. Palkhivala. The author makes an insightful observation about the intensity of inequity in India. The author emphasizes the importance of improving the education system to make India’s growth model inclusive and to equip the youth better for the dynamism of jobs of the future. The authors dwell astutely on technological changes which are going to pervade Indian industry, E-commerce, Business. The author highlights challenges before our education system. The text covers at considerable length several major on-going facets of reforms of India’s educational reforms. Further, the author talks about institutional evolution in recent times, which is also helping in kick-starting an appropriate ecosystem of skill development, especially through interventions at the school levels. The author also gives a very meaningful suggestion on specific interventions required at the university level.
