The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘On Socialism and Bank Nationalisation’ is authored by Dr. R.C. Cooper, Professor K.A. Joseph, Professor B.R. Shenoy, C.C. Desai, A.K. Chanda and published in 1969. In his essay, Dr. RC Cooper critically analyzes the economic policy suggested by the Prime Minister. Professor K.A. Joseph talks about the tyranny of socialism, the loss of liberties for planned society, and why socialism will be antagonistic to Indian democracy in his article. Professor B.R. Shenoy articulates the significance of socio-economic liberties, criticizes nationalization as a step backward, and suggests basic policy changes. In his article, C.C. Desai calls nationalisation as a political pawn, emphasizes the importance of free enterprise, and defends the criticism received by banks. A.K Chanda explains his five-fold apprehensions about nationalisation, questions nationalisation of financing institutes in a mixed economy, and ponders if ideological faith should precede professionalism in his article.
