The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Danger of Outmoded Socialism to India’s Welfare’ is authored by Murarji J. Vaidya and published in 1967. The author criticises government policies like nationalisation, rupee devaluation and its impact on economy and democracy. He further argues why socialism is responsible for this malady. He states that socialism has led to brain drain, food crises, and inflation. He elaborates the problem of food shortage and price rise in our country and how government policies have aggravated it. He points out how socialist and communist countries are accepting free market enterprise. He highlights the failure of the public sector in India and proposes a new government approach towards labour and consumers. With the help of facts and figures, he demonstrates why the private sector is superior. He recommends appointing non-political and technical leaders as members of the Planning Commission and puts forward a new approach of planning.
