The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet is titled “Food Crisis in India- Causes and Cure” written in two parts. First part, written by the very luminous Dr. Shenoy discusses the importance the agriculture industry has in India’s economic and political power, he points out that it is not less intervention that is making the farmer unable to take care of the food crisis but more and unnecessary intervention on the government’s part. He says that if the farmer were to be treated as the entrepreneur he would do much better and then India too can solve the “food crisis” and walk on its path towards economic prosperity. In the second article by M. A. Sreenivasan, he too, joins Prof Shenoy by asking to “Treat Agriculture as an Industry”. Sreenivasan points out how the political ideologies come in the way of the national good. But if those were to kept aside, Agriculture industry could very well cure the scarcity, he says.
