The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “G 20 and India” was published on November 3, 2012 and was authored by Dr. D. Subbarao. This booklet is an excellent presentation which beautifully captures, from a vantage point, the increasingly important role India has been called upon to play at the big table, G 20, in the last three years. The author explains G 20, the importance of G 20 and main issues on the G 20 Agenda. Adding to this, Dr. Subbarao talks about global rebalancing, global reserve currency, protectionism, IMF quota and governance. Furthermore, the text discusses financial sector reforms and future challenges for the G 20. Dr. Subbarao concludes the topic by raising the 64-million dollar question – can G 20 survive ? He felt it can but only by showing exemplary leadership. Alas this is what is missing as there are hardly any farsighted statesmen visible on the global stage.
