The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘The Economic Scene Today’ is authored by Minoo H. Mody and Dr Chhatrapati and published in 1981. Minoo H. Mody discusses the economic situation of the country in the essay ‘Pragmatic changes in Development policy needed’. He discusses issues like capacity utilization, labour unrest, and blames it on the investment famine of the seventies. He suggests liberalisation of controls and licensing, focus on infrastructure upgradation, two methods of financing the industry, and pragmatic changes in philosophy of development without ideological considerations. In the essay ‘Economic rationale of farmer’s agitation’, Dr. A.C. Chhatrapati examines the causes of famer’s agitation in the pre-independence and post-independence period. He recommends improved transportation, and better methods of storage and production.
