The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “The Japanese Economic Miracle” was published on March 12, 1972 and was written by J.H. Doshi. Teh booklet praises the economic progress of Japan and describes it as a miracle by several authorities from many countries. The text covers capital, financing, Japan’s technical collaboration, her agricultural development, labour in Japan, her small scale industries, her professional management method, and trade. Further the article describes how American Aid and defence benefitted Japan after the war. Government’s role also played a role in the rapid economic development. The article concludes with a suggestion to the Indian government to follow the Japanese spirit of discipline and dedication.
