The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “The Union Budget 2010-11, Implications of Direct Tax Changes and Impact on Capital Market” was published in 2010 and was authored by Prof. Kanu H. Doshi and Miss Divya Vasantharajan. The first article “Budget is for Khas Admi” by Prof. Doshi indicates that the budget is not meant to be for common people and the article introduces Direct Taxes to its readers. The author discusses the Budget 2010 and talks about Capital Gain, business income, carry forward and set off of the accumulated losses, and minimum alternate tax credit in detail. The second article of the booklet by Miss Vasantharajan highlights the effect of the Budget on various sectors of the economy. The text mentions some key notes from the budget. Her article discusses personal taxes, agriculture, textiles, banks, financial institutions, energy, power, oil, gas, infrastructure, engineering goods, automobiles, auto components, steel, information technology, telecom and pharmaceuticals.
