The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Is Socialism Outdated?” was published on March 10, 1966. The booklet contains three articles that addresses the viability of the ideology of socialism. The first article, titled ‘The Shells of Socialism’, was authored by Nani A Palkhivala and addresses the policies of the then Union Minister for Planning’s proposals. The second article, titled ‘Why Socialism Always Fails’, was authored by Sir Alec Douglas-Home and he points out the inherent flaws of the ideology that makes its feasibility rather questionable. The third article, titled ‘Will Liberalism Survive Socialism?’, was authored by M R Masani and discusses the scope of both ideologies in persisting in the public sphere.
