The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Recent changes in law affecting business and industry’ is based on a symposium organized by Forum of Free Enterprise and published in 1965. The book talks about changes in income tax, mercantile tax, company law, foreign exchange, sales tax, and corporate tax. S.P Mehta highlights the drawbacks of computing of income tax, wide powers of an income tax officer, conflict over definition of capital expense, and question of royalty. He recommends setting up trade unions with consultation with income tax authorities. Mrs. Khorshed D. P. Madon explores the development of the mercantile law, reduced freedom due to controls, and the provisions of Indian Contract Act about consideration, alien, contractual capacity, etc. H. B. Dhondy talks about evolution of company law and contribution of various committees. He criticizes the recent changes, reducing economic freedom, and vague provisions of the bill. S.R. Vakil underlines the abolition of acquisition of foreign exchange, gold control, Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, and its criticism. He further speaks about emmigration to Sterling Area, transfer of assets, and how the limit of transfer was reduced. N.C. Mehta talks about development of sales tax, types of levy, its present structure, its administration, its applicability and proposes a few recommendations. S.V Ghatalia speaks about  intercorporate dividend tax, bonus and surtax tax, impact of increasing corporate tax, and suggests remodelling tax structure.
