The following booklet is titled “Food and Environment -Walking the Tightrope ” was published on January 20, 2001, and was authored by Dr. M.S Swaminathan. The text elucidates Dr. Swaminathan’s recommendations on how to run a country parallel to sustainable patterns of both mass cultivation and consumption. Author calls the global population to individually as well as collectively take measures to prevent ecological harm. They also state various problems in the masterstroke revolutions of Indian history. They bring in light several combinations of scientific and traditional methods to solve these problems as well as upgrading the quality and the quantity of production in order to keep up with the demands of an increasing population. Author by the end of the article, highlights the solutions to these problems as well as slight corrections to be made in various remarkable technologies only to make them ecologically sustainable. They chalk out certain plans to be kept in mind while making an outline for the development of people. Swaminathan also states a history of various conferences, groups and laws of the UN that all countries should abide by to take steps for the causing least harm possible. Swaminathan draws a parallel to specially mention the indeginoius communities, for he states that without an upper hand of the primitive it is not possible to lead upto the sustainable future growth. In the end, they also tend to point out that we as individuals should critically analyse the past revolutions, their purposes and the mistakes that we committed that time only to grow better in the future.
