The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘A pragmatic economic policy for a government that works’ published in 1981. The booklet examines how economic policy making is different and why India must not copy the monetary policy of the West. It highlights issues of the Indian economy like State government overdrafts, nationalization of banks, high interest rates, etc. The author urges the government to trust the private sector more. Recommendations like establishment of private saving investment, formulating universal industrial policy, flexible commercial operations of the government, etc are given. With the help of an example, the ideal role of government in businesses. The article ends with emphasis on discipline, freedom, and openness needed in a free society.
