The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Agriculture in Asia’ is authored by Colin Clark and published in 1971. The author talks about the agriculture practices and land reforms around the world, the difference between ‘ox-plough’ and ‘cut and burn agriculture’, importance of international trade, and the definition of subsistence farming and grain-equivalents. He further points out the fallacies in statements made about hunger and malnourishment. He elaborates why setting a single calorie or protein requirement is problematic. He explains that tribals stick to subsistence farming due to lack of transport facilities and how population explosion increases industrialization. Agriculture labour force must be measured in man-months units instead of man-years units.  He recommends that the wealthier countries by stopping subsidized production and export, assist international trade of poor countries, and encourage the exports of manufactured goods.
