The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Economic Development and Conservation of Natural Resources’ is authored by Zafar Futehally and published in 1972. The author underlines the importance of natural resources with special focus on renewable resources. He highlights how humankind has exploited nature since the beginning and how overpopulation has only worsened it. He promotes ecological evaluation of developmental projects, studying history of the land before its usage, and measures to increase land productivity. He discusses the repercussions of deforestation and the significance of marsh lands for the environment. He advocates for conservation rather than conquest of nature.
