The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘India needs a practical Economic policy’ is authored by Dr. A.N. Agarwala and published in 1965. The author warns about food storage, oligopoly and declining internal value of rupee. He recommends separation of defence budget, efficiency and consumption-oriented plan, and increasing implementation input. He elaborates on the emergence of neo-capitalism, survival of capitalism in the post-war period, co-existence of private and public sectors, and importance of private enterprise. He proposes efficiency in production and cost reduction as policy goals.
