The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Liberalizing India’s Insurance Industry’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr R. N. Malhotra on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on the 29th of September 1995.
The booklet illustrates the growth of the Insurance Industry after opening up several public sector industries, which have speed up market-driven investment. The booklet elaborates the success of the competitive market in Mutual Funds Market, Domestic Civil Aviation and opening up of telecommunication services. The increase in competition promotes better quality in customer service and retains consumer choice. Moving towards the recommendation provided by the MARG committee, Mr Malhotra substantiates the need to have managerial autonomy to deal with new challenges in a competitive situation and to provide benefits at reasonable costs.
