The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘The Indian Insurance Industry’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by Mr N. Rangachary on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 20th April 1999.
The booklet illustrates the functioning of insurance companies and provides necessary implications for the development of the same. Mr Rangachary asserts that Insurance being a service-oriented market, there is a need to increase the sale of insurance by improving risks coverage and; providing better claims and benefits to the insurers and not merely specialise in legal interpretations of the insurance contract. Moreover, the booklet elaborated on the role of the regulator in channelling direct investment with insurance money. Lastly, he mentions technical advancement can assist better quality in delivering customer services and reducing procedural formalities rather than focusing on the end product can enrich the overall work culture of the insurance industry.
