The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Free Enterprise and Democracy,” was published in 1956 and was authored by the founder himself. The author firstly focused on the socialist pattern of Indian society and the inevitable concentration of economic power in the political hands to be followed soon after. He further examined the communist countries in pursuit of the Marxist-Leninist theories and emphasized the shift of morals of having a free and equal society to totalitarian tyranny. The author brought attention to the State’s intrusion in the field of free enterprise as an unpreventable development of monopoly power. Mr. Shroff highlighted the concept of a mixed economy as the viable means of providing a balance of power between the State and Free Enterprise. Lastly, he concluded and concentrated on the new approach to be adopted by the planners for the survival of the freedom of enterprise for the growth of the Indian economy.
