The Forum of Free Enterprise was a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum published booklets to further its objects. The following book titled, “Inflation Endangers Economic Progress” was published on April 7, 1961 and was authored by the founder A.D. Shroff himself. In this booklet, the author reviews The Union Budget and throws considerable light on the analysis of the previous year’s position that the Finance Minister presented to the Lok Sabha. Then the author talks about his tribute to the writer of the Economic Survey for 1950-60 for it being very objective and dispassionate and says that the Budget of any year is a photographic presentation of the economic situation in the country. The booklet covers the commencement of the Second Year Plan, Budgets for the year 1951-52 and explains the Budget of 1961-62 in a detailed manner. The text then talks about the contribution of income tax paid by the 400 million people of India and explains the new excise duties proposed and the major items of the excise duties and at the end of the text, the author discusses the public debt of the country.
