The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “New Taxation Proposals” was published on January 1, 1970 and was authored by the founder A. D. Shroff himself. The text is based on a speech delivered by A D Shroff to the democratic group on November 30, 1956 and examines the background of the economy of the country in order to be able to make a proper appraisal of Taxation Proposals made by the Finance minister in 1956. The text talks about Import Duties and describes direct taxation in three different types and further also talks about the new Capital Gains Tax and the Matthai Commission. In the end, the author sums up the implication of these proposals.
