The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Press Freedoms and Human Rights” was published in 1978 and was authored by C.R. Irani. The author highlighted the definition of Human Rights that was given by the then United States Secretary of State who had divided the concept into three parts, namely, the right to be free from governmental violation of the integrity of rights, the fulfillment of basic necessities followed by political and civil liberties. Mr. Irani brought the aspect of the infliction and restrictions that the Press in India was imposed during the time of emergency in 1975, and concluded the happenings of the violation of freedom of the Press for quite some time. He lastly focused on the upliftment of the actual code of ethics and the Indian citizens’ duty towards it.
