The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Adapting Indian Industry to Globalization” was published on May 8, 2007 and is the textual reproduction of the address given by Tarun Das at the Golden Jubilee of the Forum of Free Enterprise. Mr. Das covers the history of Indian industries including its transition from a protected economy to the post-reform liberalised economy. He talks of the need to increase the competitiveness of Indian industry to adapt to the rapidly globalizing world. He discusses the various constraints Indian industries are facing today, including government regulations in various countries. The need of the hour then is to strengthen the private sector and allow its growth without government hindrance.
